The Lucky 13

Aided by a healthy market, the list of enterprise FAO service providers continues to grow. We look at a baker’s dozen of the leading global providers helping to make outsourcing a positive experience.

Their numbers are growing, thanks to a very robust FAO market that some analysts say is expanding by 30 percent a year. That’s why many providers are attracted to the segment—all hoping to sell their expertise to hungry buyers.

So when we set out this year to choose the list of top enterprise providers, it was apparent that it would be a difficult task. After all, the market is still divided into traditional Western Hemisphere-based providers such as Accenture , Capgemini , and IBM in solid market leadership positions. On the other hand, an entire new generation of offshore vendors such as Genpact , OPI , and WNS appear ready to jostle for their share of the FAO riches. And because so many of these BPO providers have a rich, established IT heritage, they come well backed by their parent companies.

In the end, we settled on some familiar names that almost always appear at the top of buyers’ RFP list, as well as upstarts who are showing they can close on deals. Most likely, if you have been around the industry, you’ll recognize the names on our baker’s dozen of enterprise FAO providers.

What’s their secret to success? In every instance, being able to deliver on a global basis with service centers in key markets has given these providers an important cost advantage. Furthermore, they are delivering a big bucket of services, from transaction-heavy processes such as accounts payable and accounts receivable to more strategic functions such as consolidation and general ledger work. Another edge: strong leadership helping to guide their way in this still-maturing market. If they can further elevate customer satisfaction, these companies will continue to stay on our list.

In compiling our list, we’d like to thank three highly knowledgeable sourcing consultants in the industry—Bob Cecil of EquaTerra , Lisa Ross of FAO Research , and Katrina Menzigian of Everest Research —for their valuable insights and help with our final selection.
